Sunrise 1 (SR1): Governmental Reserved Names
- Pre-sunrise: While this period, the governments and the public entities of the Asia’s 73 countries will propose a list of reserved names. Those names will be checked by the GACKREF (Governmental Acknowledgment References).
- Governments or relevant bodies may “activate” (i.e. register) domain names from the reserved names list compiled in Pre-Sunrise. Activations must be procured through .ASIA accredited registrars.
- Note that SR1 starts at the same time that SR2a (however, SR1 will continue through Landrush).
From October 9th until October 30th 2007
Sunrise 2 (SR2): Registered Marks
Sunrise 2a (SR2a): “Early Bird Sunrise”
- This period is reserved to the trademark holders for which the registration has been done before March 16th 2004.
- Trademark must be registered and valid at the time of the domain name’s registration
- The holder must prove the use of the trademark in his field of activities.
- The domain name’s registrant must be owner, co-owner or assignee of the trademark and in order to prove it, he has to be able to provide documents on request.
- In the case of several requests for the same domain name, the registry will proceed to an auction.
- The requests of Sunrise 2a will have priority on the demands for Sunrise 2b and 2c, and on those of Sunrise 3.
From November 13th until January 15th 2008
Sunrise 2b (SR2b) : “General Registred Marks“
- This period is reserved to the trademark holders for which the registration request has been done before December 2006
- Trademark must be registered and valid at the time of the domain name’s registration
- The domain name’s registrant must be owner, co-owner or assignee of the mark and in order to prove it, he might be able to provide documents on request.
- In the case of several requests for the same domain name, the register will proceed to an auction.
- The requests of Sunrise 2b will have priority on the demands for Sunrise 2c, and on those of Sunrise 3.
Sunrise 2c (SR2c): “Extended Protection“
- This period is reserved to the trademarks eligible in SR2a or SR2b and it will provide a real protection of the trademark in its field of activities (application form for domain name in SR2a/b is not a pre-requisite).
- Domain name applied for may be constituted with the trademark, associate with significant words from the class description in the Nice Classification system (http://www.wipo.int/classifications/nivilo/nice/)
For example, the trademark for “XYZ” in Nice Class 1: “Chemicals” may apply for “XYZChemicals.Asia”
The grammatical derivative of the name will be accepted as well as plurals. This period will also be open for the commercial names.
- In the case of several requests for the same domain name, the register will proceed to an auction.
Sunrise 3 (SR3): Period reserved for the companies and entities having a legal existence in one of the Asia’s 73 countries.
- Domain name applied for must correspond with the registered entity name (i.e. company name/organization name)
- The legal entity will have to be registered in one of the Asia’s 73 countries before December 6, 2006.
- The holder will have to submit documents that prove that the legal entity is registered.
- In the case of several requests for the same domain name, the register will proceed to an auction sale.
From February 2008 (estimated calendar)
LANDRUSH : This period is reserved for individuals and companies
- The .ASIA will be accessible to any individuals or organisations which respond to eligibility requirements.
- In the case of several requests for the same domain name, the register will proceed to an auction.
From March 2008 (estimated calendar)
GO LIVE PERIOD: This period is reserved for individuals and companies
- The .ASIA will be accessible to any individuals or organisations on a first-come first-served basis.
